How the project will run

Throughout this Autumn and Winter we will be collecting broken and discarded umbrellas. Keep an eye out for our special umbrella collecting bins in locations around Galway city.

Starting in October, we will be doing pop-up deconstructing umbrella workshops; taking umbrellas apart into component parts ready for reconstruction.

In Spring 2020 reconstruction will begin; led by Jeni Roddy, participants will work on designs for public sculptures using the deconstructed elements of the collected umbrellas as the materials.

Both phases of the reconstruction will happen in Galway City. The first phase of the reconstruction will take place from the 17th to the 21st of February and the second phase from the 13th to the 17th of April. Participants will be able to join up for shorter or longer periods during these sessions, we will work to include as many people as possible.
