GRAIN LOVES RAIN

Amsterdam/Ukraine

Grain loves Rain is a wearable piece of nature that you bring along with you in a rainy climate. It is a fragile ecosystem on the go, which requires care and love. You need to feed it, and it eats water and moisture. In order to keep your raincoat of sprouted grains nourished - you are required to be actively looking for rainy weather. As a concept, it questions a common position of human as the centre of an ecosystem. It requires a will to step back of our comfort condition and embrace the uncomfortable for the sake of the wellbeing of a small green ecosystem.

PROSO is an Amsterdam based architecture, art and design atelier. It was conceived as a nursery for a critically driven design approach, with a strong focus on social, ecological and urban integration. We aim to plant a seed that will result in a healthy and happy urban environment. It was established in 2019 by Dasha Tsapenko and Nazar Gresko who bring their diverse educational and professional background to their design process.

Sew Last Season

GLÉASTA DON AIMSIR

Galway

100 bright and colourful umbrellas crafted from unwanted fabrics and materials for use in a new ‘shared rain-wear’ movement in Galway city, to initiate a movement of well being, good will and honesty.

Sew Last Season is a community group of volunteers whose ethos is to embrace sustainability and creativity whilst counteracting the paradigm of fast fashion. Or aim is to reuse and upcycle unwanted fabric that the St Vincent de Paul charity shop cannot sell which would otherwise end up in landfill, polluting and toxifying our planet. We are a diverse group encompassing varied ages, skill sets, lived experience, and ethnic backgrounds, embracing the new face of Galway.

RAIN...RHYTHM...REUSE

Ireland

Rain...Rhythm..Reuse is a playful, practical and celebratory work. It challenges its audience to reconsider their relationship to rain - the life giving element water. When in use on the body Rain...Rhythm..Reuse celebrates the rhythm of the falling rain while it also collects the rain water into recycled containers for reuse. It is all about celebrating rain as a wonderful resource and recognising the importance of a respectful relationship towards how we use water in the everyday. We cannot take it for granted.

Fiona McDonald is an architect and artist whose interdisciplinary spatial practice attempts to expand our awareness of our natural and man-made environment in parallel with socio-economic development associated with place. Her work explores the potential inherent in alternative considerations of space, materials and economic exchange. Her practice operates in the public domain by making drawings, films, objects and architectural interventions that are site-specific and address history, experience, temporalities and functional use.
